Claire, founder of Tuition with Claire & Co

Your dedicated and experienced tutors

Hello! I'm Claire.

I'm a mum, and I've spent over 18 years working with children as a Teacher, Tutor, Mentor and Learning Support Assistant. That has taught me how children learn best emotionally, socially and academically.

My love of teaching began in 2005 when I supported a child with learning difficulties. It led me to qualify as a Primary School Teacher in 2010. When I left the classroom, I wanted to keep supporting children and families, so in 2023 I launched ‘Tuition with Claire & Co’. Demand has grown fast and so has our team. I've welcomed experienced teachers and tutors who share my educational philosophy and commitment to helping children succeed, and I match every child with the right tutor for them.

Amy has been a god send in our house to my 5 year old daughter, Sophia.. Sophia really struggled with her confidence at the end of Reception so I made the decision to use Claire & Co and it’s honestly the best thing I’ve done.. we’re now into the 1st term of Year 1 and Sophia is thriving, she always asks when Amy’s coming back and looks forward to her sessions every week. Thank you so much!

Claire has been tutoring my 5 year old, Bettie, for a few months. Bettie absolutely loves going to Claire for maths and English she gets so excited just like she would to go soft play or something! She adores Claire as she makes learning so fun that Bettie doesn’t find it a chore at all. She has improved so much with maths as her teacher pulled me aside to tell me which really made me feel lucky to have found Claire. Claire definitely goes the extra mile to engage the children which really shows. Wouldn’t think twice to reccommend.

Claire has been tutoring both my children ages 11 and 8 now for around 2 years. She first started tutoring my eldest daughter and soon we had to send my youngest as she was jealous of all the fun my eldest was having learning. The key with children is they need to enjoy what they are doing or they won’t want to do it. Claire has mastered this fantastic always using new and imaginative ways to teach them and rewards for their hard work. Both my girls have come on so much and improved in all areas but for me it’s also the fact they love to go and disappointment on weeks they aren’t going. Claire’s warm and caring nature brings out the best in them and ensures they feel safe and secure in the learning environment and enjoys their time at tutoring. Cannot recommend Claire enough. X

Claire has been tutoring our daughter for 18months. She makes every session engaging and enjoyable for Holly. She gives her the confidence and push to take on new challenges she knows Holly is capable of but not confident in. The smile that beams on her face when Claire has helped her is priceless. She has taught our daughter so much and Holly adores Claire. We love having a workbook to be able to read and revisit at home. If you want a tutor that will tailor to your child needs Claire is 💯 the tutor she goes above and beyond.

We are very lucky to have found Claire. She has been warm and welcoming from the start. Claire puts so much effort into the preparation and productivity for my son’s sessions. She is very creative and always has something new and exciting each week. Claire keeps my son engaged from start to finish and he is always wanting more when the tuition is over. My son has really improved in many areas since his lessons with Claire started. Claire has spent her own time researching and understanding what works best for the needs we have. Claire is also very adaptive to any requirement we have had and works to what best suits the child. The follow up from each session is detailed and informative. Thank you Claire, we look forward to all the sessions Joshua has to come (3 years old).

I am an experienced and passionate teacher with over 18 years of working closely with children in a range of roles, including Primary School Teacher, Private Tutor, Mentor, and Learning Support Assistant. Over the years, I’ve developed a deep understanding of how children learn best — not just academically, but emotionally and socially too. My approach is calm, patient, and tailored to each child’s unique needs. I’ve had the privilege of working with children facing a variety of challenges, including a range of SEND. I believe in building strong, trusting relationships and creating a safe, supportive environment where children can grow in confidence, resilience, and develop a lifelong love of learning. In recent years, I stepped away from the classroom to launch Tuition with Claire — a space where I can continue doing what I love most: helping children thrive through personalised, one-to-one support.

After completing my teacher training in 1998, I worked for 4 years before moving to Wembley where I began work in a variety of North London schools, supporting pupils who were hearing impaired and EAL. I successfully ran and chaired a community group for home educators. I organised educational trips and life skills activities for neurodivergent children, using a hands-on approach to learning, whilst supporting parents from diverse backgrounds and building confidence and successful relationships. I developed an interest in SEND, completing online professional development which included Trauma Training, Relational Practice and Autism and Dyslexia. I have tutored children from age 7 to 15, including children with Autism and visual impairments, adapting my teaching to support the need of the child. I have a calm and caring nature yet firm in my approach. I have a good understanding of Autism, ADHD and in particular SEMH as a barrier to learning and use various strategies to help children overcome these. My key principles are of building trusting relationships and a child centred and creative approach to all learning.

I have been teaching since 1992 and during that time have taught across a variety of schools in Southend, Essex, Thurrock and Havering. At the heart of good teaching is an understanding that every child is unique and at a different stage in their learning. The beauty of 1:1 tuition is that the tutor can devise a tailored programme that suits the individual child. I will identify gaps and misconceptions in learning by listening to parents and using my professional judgement when meeting a child for the first time and then design lessons that are not only targeted to move learning forward but are fun too. Laughter is a good motivator! Children need to feel safe and supported and the work needs to be exciting and engaging. My approach is holistic and aimed at helping children not only to master a particular stumbling block but also to thrive and develop the skills needed to become successful and confident learners in the long term.
